NINNI & MIKA
FINLAND’S FINEST FOLK ROOTS DUO
Genre: FOLK ROOTS, AMERICANA
Ninni & Mika are a Helsinki based indie duo creating compelling
contemporary folk & roots music. Steeped in the Finnish folk tradition and
drawing on the spiritual bloodline that has given the world the great singer songwriter tradition of the past sixty years their music is at once universal and deeply personal.
The duo’s 2014 album Vagabond Moon was hailed as an instant classic by fans and critics alike peaking at #20 on the Finnish mainstream charts. Their
follow up album All Them Pretty Things was recorded in Milan USA by
Grammy award winner Justin Guip (Levon Helm) & Amy Helm (harmony vocals). also features another Grammy winner Larry Campbell on guitar , Little Feat’s Bill Payne on keyboards, and a guest vocal appearance by rising USA singer/songwriter Joshua James. The album continues the duo’s long term collaboration with the Australian lyricist and poet Terry McArthur and is slated for a 2016 release.
In concert Ninni & Mika are renowned for the warmth and energy of their
performances. In Finland they have paid their dues supporting artists such as Sting, Neil Young, Don Maclean and Joshua James.
Andrew has folk and alternative music on Sunday afternoons and regular guests for live acoustic performances.
After an all too brief spell in BBC local radio as "the most junior member of the team", Andrew made a number of community stations in south London his home from home.
His several years of radio experience have included:
- showing some estimable young people how to press all the right buttons, probably in the wrong order.
- winning the Terry Wogan award for mid-morning banter. (Oh, alright, it was a joke certificate!)
- regularly having tea with musicians in the name of broadcasting. This is the second time Andrew has added Ninni & Mika's songs to his Sunday playlist thank you Andrew.
